Settlement of South Korea
South Korea began with the establishment of agglomerated villages along the river valleys and coastal lowlands in the rural areas. More than a hundred villages were constructed. These villages are located along the foothills facing toward the south, backed by hills that give protection from the severe northwestern winter winds. Shortly, South Korea began to urbanize and become a stable modern society. These villages were then abandoned as more people began to move into the crowded rowdy cities. South Korea began to experience a huge population rise during the 20th century as more individuals moved into the big cities. Soon the villages began to fade, as new technology and better opportunities arose in Seoul and other big cities. Before World War II began many Koreans migrated to other parts of the country expanding the resident population to spread into other countries.
